Determinations of the Business Committee for Wednesday, 6 December 2023
The Business Committee makes decisions about many aspects of proceedings of the House and its committees. It can determine the order of business to be transacted in the House, the time to be spent on any particular item of business in the House, how time spent on a particular item of business will be allocated among the parties represented in the House, and the speaking time of individual members on an item of business. It can determine extended sitting hours and whether legislation may proceed through the House as cognate bills or as an omnibus bill. The nature of committee of the whole House consideration of a bill may be determined by the Business Committee. It also decides the size and membership of select committees.
That a motion about entities deemed to be public organisations be taken without debate on Wednesday, 6 December 2023 following the motion for reinstatement of business.
That the Government advised the committee of its intention to move to accord urgency to business on the evenings of 12, 13, 14, and 19 December 2023.
That a member is considered as attending official business for the sitting day following any virtual meeting arranged as part of the official inter-parliamentary relations programme that they attend between 10pm and 7am.
That a course offered by the Parliamentary Education Charitable Trust is official business, if the course is run while the House is sitting.
That any meeting a member participates in at secure facilities in Defence House is official business, if the meeting occurs while the House is sitting.
That a proposed Government motion relating to a sessional order regarding the term “Amendment Paper” be taken without debate.
That, pending its reinstatement, the first reading of the Human Rights (Prohibition of Discrimination on Grounds of Gender Identity or Expression, and Variations of Sex Characteristics) Amendment Bill be postponed until further notice.
That a Government motion relating to the proposed sessional order to allow a member who is significantly impaired, and therefore unable to attend the House to be sworn in, to make alternative arrangements to be sworn in by the Clerk outside of Parliament will be taken without debate.

That the order of calls for urgent debates as set out in the attached roster will be observed.
The allocation of calls for first readings of members’ bills as set out in the attached roster will be observed.

The allocation of calls for the first readings of Government bills as set out in the attached roster will be observed.
